THE EFFECT OF COVID-19 IN THE EVENT INDUSTRY

When we marched into 2020, we were excited about a new decade making a whole lot of resolutions, plans and goals little did we know that we would be experiencing a Worldwide pandemic; speaking of COVID-19 (the coronavirus)
.
Coronavirus is a group of virus responsible for respiratory illness. Its outbreak was first noticed in China in December 2019
The symptoms include cough, fever and shortness of breath. COVID-19 can be severe and some cases have caused death which is why it is important that we inform and remind ourselves frequently on the preventive measures especially working in an industry such as ours, where we have no choice than to come in contact with various people everyday(clients, vendors and staff) and trust me when I say this has affected the event industry a whole lot. In the light of shows being cancelled, football matches being postponed, conferences are rescheduled, people are scared to come out of their homes, people are scared to interact with one another and when they do it’s either they are on face masks and keeping a very reasonable distance and this has hindered us in so many ways…you would not want to imagine a bride walking down the aisle with a face mask on or an event planner organising an event with low turnout of guests or events to be cancelled or working with fear that a vendor or a staff might be a carrier of this disease. So it is very necessary that we educate ourselves.
.
Here’s one or two things you need to understand about how CORONAVIRUS SPREADS
.
This virus are usually in droplets, these droplets could be in saliva or sweat and they spread when these droplets from a sick person gets into your eyes, nose and mouth
.
So if you see someone who is visibly coughing/ sneezing you can choose to keep your distance about 0.5 to 2m is okay and this would keep you safe from these droplets should incase he/she is a carrier
.
You can also give them a mask, they can cough or sneeze into it thereby protecting everybody around them in absence of no mask advice them to sneeze into their elbow.
.
Event centres, offices and hangout spots should have thermometer gauge at the entrance and hand sanitizers for welcome-in guests, that way we are sure that those of us in are protected.
.
Be observant, to point out a sick staff, client or vendor and advice them to quickly go in for a test.
.
In general, its preferable to avoid crowds because you do not know who is a carrier and in instances where you have no option than to be in a crowded environment always be on alert, wash your hands thorougly for about 20 seconds; that’s enough time to sing “Happy Birthday” and make sure you’re always with a pocket hand sanitizers, don’t touch your mouth, eyes and nose and those of other people with unwashed hands.
.
Keep washing those hands, keep being observant. This is no joke, CORONAVIRUS IS REAL but we can stop its spread by WASHING ONE HAND AT A TIME
.
Stay Safe Guys
