Lizzy and Gbenga’s Rustic Glam Themed White Wedding

We met in 2009, through a mutual friend at the time and we started talking on Facebook for a while before we physically met. I remember thinking he was a nice and funny dude because he used to crack these really cheesy jokes LOL. We ended up meeting at university, where he was already in his second year and I was a freshman on campus.

It was really platonic at first and I just liked being in his company. A really chilled and laid back individual, we just used to talk about everything and anything for hours and I remember feeling comfortable around him. I met some of his friends at house parties and get – togethers and they would always give me this look like, ‘oh so this is the girl u have been talking about “, but I just remember smiling and being unaware until one day we sat down and had a chat as we usually did. I remember I used to always say “you are not serious” and laugh, whenever he made a joke, but on that day he looked at me and replied ‘” I know, but I am serious about you!” I blushed and laughed SO hard! But he was so sweet and I really liked him so I asked him what he meant and we took it from there.

Proposal: Fast forward to 9 years later, Gbenga came to visit me in London for the summer as we were in a long distance relationship for 6 of those years, we both flew back and forth between Abuja and London to spend time together. This particular trip, he stayed for quite a while and we really enjoyed each other’s company. It was the day before he had to go back and also a celebration of our 9 year anniversary so we decided to go for dinner at a restaurant recommended to me by a friend. We met at the restaurant, which had a flower wall at the entrance and everyone that knows me, knows I love a good photo op! So I told Gbenga that when we finished having dinner I wanted us to take a few selfies there. He said sure no problem. I remember thinking he looks so handsome this evening and just rethinking the past three months we had spent together and how much I was really going to miss seeing him after work every day. We had a toast to our anniversary, drank and started making our way back to take the selfies.

We started taking selfies at the flower wall and one of the security guards that was there asked us if we wanted a picture taken. I was hesitant because we had just eaten and I felt like I had a food baby lol but I reluctantly said ok and Gbenga gave his phone to the man to take pictures. Gbenga stood next to me for a few seconds and then moved away and said he had something really important to ask me. So I asked him what it was and he got down on one knee, I started screaming like WHAAT!! My head got really hot and I couldn’t stop smiling lol. Then he said Elizabeth Temidayo Omolabake Foster-Aileru .. and I honestly could not remember the rest because I had dreamed of this day for so long it was so surreal to me that it was happening. I said yes to the love of my life and we are getting married!
